Playoff spots on the line in final week of regular season

by Scott Ludwig

The inaugural Women's Basketball Development Basketball Association regular season comes to a conclusion this weekend with 13 games remaining on the schedule. Six of eight playoff spots have been secured for the first WBDA Championship to be played in Kansas City on August 2-4. While just two spots remain, playoff seeding is still up in the air.

WBDA East

Philadelphia Reign (10-0) are the top seed and only unbeaten team in the league. Toledo Threat (8-1) and Atlanta Monarchs (7-1) are in. The final spot will be decided in Miami where the Dade County Lady Bulls (8-1) host the Orlando Boom (7-2) with the winner securing the playoff berth. Orlando won their previous matchup 73-70 on May 18.

WBDA West

Phoenix Lady Elite 1s (7-1) and Oakland Rise (6-1) are both already planning their trip to KC, but with games to play the top seed is still up-for-grabs. If Oakland win their final two games they will be the top seed in the West. With their regular season complete Chicago Lady Rage (7-3) are in.

The lone spot on the line is controlled by the Dallas Crest (5-2) who have a pair of games to play against the Birmingham Legends. Dallas needs to win both games to guarantee a playoff berth. If the Crest split the two games they would be tied with Killeen Force (6-3) who would advance holding the tiebreaker. The teams split their two games, but Killeen won their home game 91-72 while Dallas won on their home court 70-68.

Stay tuned this weekend for updates!
